Ryan Christianson at Jazz Central Studios

Ryan Christianson is an up and coming freelance musician and educator in the Twin Cities. Born to a musical family, Ryan first began playing trombone at the age of two and, at age thirteen, began his professional career with the Dick King and the Classic Swing Band based in Grand Forks, ND. Through his high school years he continued to perform in various professional rock and jazz groups, on trombone, piano, and bass guitar.Since moving to the Twin Cities two years ago, Ryan has been fortunate to record and perform with such local icons as the Jack Brass Band, Mark Mallman, and the New Standards. Through his high school years he continued to perform in various professional rock and jazz groups, on trombone, piano, and bass guitar.Since moving to the Twin Cities two years ago, Ryan has been fortunate to record and perform with such local icons as the Jack Brass Band, Mark Mallman, and the New Standards. Further, Ryan has performed with such national acts as Lorie Line and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra.

Ryan has also participated in such prestigious rock music festivals as Sonshine Music Festival in Willmar, MN and the Warped Tour with his ska band, The Ska-Skank Redemption. Most recently, Ryan was selected as runner-up for the International Trombone Association’s Carl Fontana Competition, an international competition for jazz trombonists under the age of 22.

Presently, Ryan is finishing up Bachelor of Music degrees in Trombone Performance and Music Education from the University of Minnesota and can be heard every first Tuesday of the month at Jazz Central with the Bill Simenson Orchestra.
