About
Born in Pittsburgh, a city with a rich jazz history, Richard Johnson moved on to Massachusetts where he was a high school piano star. A degree from Berklee and a Masters in Jazz Pedagogy from Boston Conservatory followed. In May of 1999, Richard graduated from the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at NEC under the direction of Ron Carter. After arriving in New York City, within a matter of weeks Richard became a member of Wynton Marsalis' Septet and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (from 2000-2003). He also was part of Russell Malone's quartet as well as Irvin Mayfield's quintet. Over the past 10 years Richard has been touring and performing with jazz and blues greats such as Jimmy Heath, Herbie Hancock, Bobby Watson, Antonio Hart, Chris Thomas King and others...
