MAKAYA, named after one of Haiti highest mountains, is an essentially instrumental world-jazz quintet. "It's an avantgarde Montreal quintet with an impressive self-titled debut album."

Winner of the bronze medal in the first edition of the Syli d'Or World Music competition, in 2007, and finalist in Grand Prix of Jazz TD within the framework of the Montreal International Jazz Festival of 2010, Makaya releases a first eponymic record (2009), confirming that it represents effectively "a real hope of Creole jazz", Yves Bernard, Le Devoir.
