On Saturday, September 21, the Contemporary Jazz Series returns with a performance featuring world music and latin jazz septet El Movimiento!
El Movimiento, or "ElMo" as the band is affectionately referred to by its hometown fans, has in a few short years established itself as a true sensation on the Music City's jazz scene. The septet's powerful, fun and unique performances are the result of a multi-cultural collaboration between the band's three co-leaders - each an accomplished instrumentalist and composer - saxophonist and founder of the Jazz Music City record label Rahsaan Barber, Dominican percussionist Giovanni Rodriguez, and Puerto Rican trumpeter Imer Santiago. The band's debut CD "The Movement" spent two months in the CMJ World Music Charts Top 10, as well as appearing on both the CMJ Jazz Top 40 and JazzWeek Top 50 charts....
