NASHVILLE, March 3, 2010 The Tennessee Aquatic Project and Development Group, Inc. (TAP) is proud to announce TAP Into JAZZ, celebrating 15 years of service to At Risk youth in the Nashville community, featuring jazz recording artist, Erly Thornton and TAP alumnus and Tennessee State University student, Marcus Johnson. Everyone in the community is invited to attend on April 17, 2010 7 p.m. at the Essense Room, on historic Jefferson Street. Doors open at 6 p.m. for socialization and Silent Auction.
The event will feature highlights of the accomplishments of TAP and its alumni (100% of whom have gone on to college) and fundraising activities to support the numerous training opportunities open to TAP youth.
Each year, TAP provides a third of the lifeguards at pools across the city. TAP has been doing a great job, for many years, in providing quality youth to assume positions in our recreational facilities, says Tommy Lynch, acting director of the Metropolitan Nashville Parks and Recreation Board.
Everyone in the community is encouraged to come out and celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of this most noteworthy program. Tickets are $35.00/person and go on sale Monday, March 8, 2010. They may be purchased online at the TAP website (tennesseeaquaticproject.org) or by calling Kenneth Stewart at 321-3060. For more information please visit www.tennesseeaquaticproject.org.
About TAP
Since 1995, the Tennessee Aquatic Project and Development Group, Inc. (TAP), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, has sought to maximize the growth potential of African-American youth by exposing them to opportunities to engage in activities that build character, leadership, critical thinking skills, survival techniques, and community awareness. Guided by an all-volunteer staff, TAP uses aquatic training (swimming, lifeguarding, and scuba diving) as the vehicle to master new skills, build confidence and pursue non- traditional careers. Serving youth between the ages of 8 and 18, TAP youth are swimmers, water safety instructors, lifeguard instructors, snorkelers, and scuba divers (open water divers, rescue divers, and master divers). Several alumni have pursued careers in areas first discovered as TAP participants in marine biology, environmental science, and licensed professional divers. It is the goal of TAP to expose and impact the lives of youth so that they can dare to dream of possibilities!
