The popular jazz performance and education series Jazz on the Move returns to the Frist Center after a January performance at Lipscomb University honoring the great composer Jimmy Van Heusen. Each installment of the series features a lecture and performance highlighting a major figure or period in jazz history. Presented by Nashville’s top jazz artist/educators, the series offers audiences world class music as well as an opportunity to learn more about jazz.
March 10 - A Tribute to Dave Brubeck Featuring Bruce Dudley
Jazz lost one of its giants last December when pianist and composer Dave Brubeck passed away at the age of 92. Brubeck was one of the most popular and innovative figures in jazz. With a career that spanned over six decades, his experiments in odd time signatures, improvised counterpoint, polyrhythm and polytonality remain hallmarks of innovation. His world tours and appearances on college campuses gave jazz a mass appeal in the 1950's and 60's. "Time Out" became the first jazz album ever to sell over a million copies, and "Take Five" is perhaps the most recognizable jazz composition in history....
