February 23 - Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Presented by Marcus Finnie
Arthur "Art" Blakey was an American Grammy Award-winning jazz drummer and bandleader. Along with Kenny Clarke and Max Roach, he was one of the inventors of the modern bebop style of drumming.
For more than 30 years his band, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, was a training ground for generations of young jazz players who "graduated" to become influential performers in their own rights. Art Blakey was elected to the Jazz Hall of Fame (1982), the Grammy Hall of Fame (2001), and received the National Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
The afternoon's program will be presented by renowned Nashville drummer Marcus Finnie. Besides leading his own group, Marcus has performed with a host of artists in a number of musical genres, including India Arie, Earl Klugh, Aaron Neville, Lady Antebellum, Larry Carlton, and Billy Preston.
This year's series is presented with support from Caterpillar Financial Services, Peter and Anne Neff, and the Frist Foundation.
The programs take place on a series of Sunday afternoons, and are free and open to the public. All performances are at 3:00 pm in the auditorium at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, 919 Broadway, Nashville, Tenn.

Those attending Jazz on the Move at the Frist will be able to visit the Frist's exhibits free of charge, and will also receive discounted parking.
The Frist Center for the Visual Arts is an accredited nonprofit art-exhibition center, with approximately 24,000 square feet of gallery space, dedicated to presenting the finest visual art from local, state and regional artists, as well as major U.S. and international exhibitions.
