The Nashville Jazz Workshop and the Frist Center for the Visual Arts announce the TENTH season of the popular jazz performance and education series, Jazz on the Move. Each installment features a lecture and performance highlighting a major figure or period in jazz history. Presented by Nashville’s top jazz artist/educators, the series offers audiences world class music as well as an opportunity to learn more about jazz.
February 28 - Tribute to Nat King Cole - Presented by vocalist Kevin Whalum
Nat "King" Cole was a jazz pianist who rose to prominence in the 1940s as leader of the King Cole Trio. Considered an innovator on jazz piano, it was as a vocalist that he entered the national consciousness and became an enduring legend, with classics such as "Straighten Up and Fly Right," "Mona Lisa," "Unforgettable," and "The Christmas Song." In 1956, he became the first African American to host a national television show, and his popularity has endured undiminished to the present time. Vocalist extraordinaire Kevin Whalum leads a tribute to this modern jazz master....
