Friday, March 13 – Band in residence ‘Reeds & Deeds’

Reeds &Deeds is a sextet specializing in the music of Roland Kirk, including Frans Vermeerssen, Bo van de Graaf and Alex Coke on saxes and flutes, Michiel Braam on piano, Arjen Gorter on double bass and Makki van Engelen on drums.


Students can form bands themselves and select a Kirk tune to work on between 12.30 and 15.30. If students want help on beforehand on the selection or otherwise they can ask Frans or Michiel. It is not mandatory to play in such a band, but it would be nice to have, and there is room for, around eight bands working in the afternoon...

Apart from those bands there are arrangements (Spirits up Above, Theme for the Eulipions and Bright Moments) available for choir plus rhythm section for all vocalists to join and material for a string ensemble (Vertigo Ro, The Inflated Tear, A Laugh For Rory). Reeds & Deeds will bring those arrangements, which might also be handed out on beforehand. Frans will coach the choir, Michiel will coach the string ensemble. The other four Reeds & Deeds members will divide their attention between the other bands, coaching everyone towards a performance at 4PM.
