Come enjoy this new special ALBA Musik album release concert event with internationally acclaimed singer & dancer Bárbara Martínez along with her company of talented flamenco music and jazz artists including Albert Alabedra on flamenco guitar, Bob DiGiacomo on electric bass and percussionist Engin Gunaydin. Together they bring to you an exciting evening of flamenco fusion music & dance in celebration of this internationally popular art form.
Bárbara comes from a lineage of celebrated Argentinian tango singer/actresses Morenita Rey (her grandmother) and Libertad Lamarque (her grand-aunt.) Her father, Rafael Martínez, was a celebrated Venezuelan sculptor who played a role in the kinetic art movement from Latin America. Bárbara has worked as an actor, dancer and choreographer in multimedia musical plays written and directed by her mother, playwright and art-historian, Amelia Arenas.
Bárbara Martínez has an extensive performance career that began at age 11 with The Children’s Chorus of the Metropolitan Opera. She has spent a lifetime crafting performance skills as a dancer and vocal artist, specializing in choreography, composition and musical arrangements. Bárbara is one of few flamenco artists who perform regularly both as singer and dancer with the major flamenco dance companies in the United States, such as Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, A Palo Seco Flamenco Company, Pasión y Arte Flamenco Company, Sol y Sombra Flamenco Company, Entre Flamenco, Cava Flamenco Miami, Juanito Pascual, Nelida Tirado, Arts Flamenco, Flamenco Sepharad, New Andalucía and others.
TEATRO Sí presents live concert performances of passionate music and dance for flamenco aficionados during each annual season. Along with special diverse guest artists, the experience reveals the pure emotional essence of this popular Iberian music and dance form. Together they celebrate the expressive flamenco as it takes on a new character and exposes the audience to the warmth of the human spirit as expressed through music and dance. The body movements and the facial expressions of the dancers join with the artistry of the musicians and singers to create a spectacle that is a treat for both the eye and the soul. Come experience an evening of Spanish gypsy culture with the casts of these captivating music and dance celebrations!
