New York, NY – On Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 at 7:00 PM. Singer / Pianist / Composer Rick DellaRatta and Jazz for Peace, considered by many to be one of the finest Jazz Artists performing today, will begin a series of concerts for Gulf Oil Relief with a benefit concert for the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana. The concert will take place at NYU Medical Centers Schwartz Auditorium located at 401 First Ave. and will feature an exciting array of surprise special guests including Eddie Clendening from Million Dollar Quartet and Eddie Brill from the David Letterman Show! Sponsors so far include NYU/HJD Department of Orthopaedics, Competitor Group and Gallery 57 Dental.. The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana(CRCL)is a non-profit organization that has been working for over 20 years to restore and protect a sustainable coastal Louisiana. In response to the BP Oil Spill, CRCL is recruiting and mobilizing teams of volunteers to help with coastal restoration and oil spill recovery. CRCL is also working with Federal and State partners to obtain the necessary funding and attention required for the restoration and protection of Louisiana’s fragile coast. You can support CRCL’s efforts by coming to this concert, buying items at the auction during the event and making donations either at the event or by telephone during the radiothon!
Having performed with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Paquito D' Rivera, Rick DellaRatta has established himself as one of the finest Jazz Singer/Pianists performing today. Recently, DellaRatta was named in Scott Yanow's book Jazz Singers as one of the Top Jazz Vocalists of all time and included by The Foundation Center in their list of the top musician philanthropists of our time along with Bono (U2), Elton John, Peter Gabriel and Sting. His current "Rick DellaRatta and Jazz for Peace World Tour" has included historic performances in the US, Europe, Africa and Brazil and his landmark Jazz for Peace concert at the United Nations in New York in 2002 uniting Israeli, Palestinian and American musicians in concert is now considered “One of the most significant cultural events of our time!” This U.N. Concert has led to a benefit concert series that has gone on to raise funds, publicity and awareness for over 700 non-profit organizations, garnered support and praise from distinguished Americans such as President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senator John McCain, Congressman Dennis Kucinich, activist Noam Chomsky, actor Ed Begley Jr., New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and many more; and attended and enjoyed by ambassadors, celebrities, humanitarians, and music lover’s worldwide!
Eddie Clendening is currently starring as Elvis in the Broadway production of Million Dollar Quartet. He brings with him over a decade of stage experience. Eddie has played alongside Jerry Lee Lewis and Dale Hawkins. He has toured as a featured guitarist/vocalist in several nationally known combos, and he’s been in demand all across the United States, Europe and Asia. With several popular recordings released and a brand new full-length album out now, he is extremely proud to be supporting Gulf Oil clean-up by appearing at this concert.
Eddie Brill is a well-respected and very funny stand-up comedian here in the USA and abroad. He was born and raised in New York...and re-raised in Hollywood, FL. For the past thirteen years and counting, has worked on the Late Show with David Letterman. He is the audience warm-up and Talent Coordinator for the comedians who appear on the show. Eddie Brill has been the audience warm-up for many shows including the "Dana Carvey Show," "Madigan Men," "This is Your Life" and for a short time....early episodes of "Saved By The Bell." He has appeared in numerous films as an actor...most recently, "30 Years To Life" with Tracy Morgan. He has used his voice talents in many animated series including Comedy Central's "Dr Katz" and ABC's "Science Court."
An original acrylic/collage painting has been donated by Dave Newman for auction at this event. Dave is a self-taught artist living in Prescott, Arizona. Originally from Southern California, Dave moved to Arizona in 1997 with his wife, Donna. He creates mixed media collage constructions using his original photographs, found objects and vintage magazine articles and advertisements. In making these ‘time capsules”, Dave focuses on historic locations, recycles objects and brings a sense of nostalgia to his work. You can find Dave’s works at the Newman Gallery, located on historic Whiskey Row in Prescott, Arizona. He is also represented by: Xanadu Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona and Meyer Gallery, Park City, Utah.
