The GEM SESSIONS:
A new, monthly series presenting internationally-renowned modern jazz musicians, both emerging artists and legendary masters – all exciting, positioning the Little Gem Saloon as the new “jazz corner of New Orleans.” The Gem Sessions are the place where exciting artists who are touring all over the country can finally be presented to live music lovers here in the Crescent City. The atmosphere is comfortable, the food and drinks outstanding, the setting stellar, the sound state-of-the-art, and the sounds soulful and swinging.
The launch (September) of "Gem Sessions" features young jazz star and vibraphonist Warren Wolf of Balitmore, MD, known as “one of the most influential young vibraphonists playing anywhere.” Wolf and his group Wolfpack will celebrate the release of their new album (Aug. 20) for Mack Avenue Records called 'Wolfgang,' a CD that features two different three-man rhythm sections (pianist
Benny Green, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Lewis Nash; and pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist Kris Funn and drummer Billy Williams, Jr.), as well as two noteworthy duo pieces with pianist/label-mate Aaron Diehl.
Wolf, a multi-instrumentalist (vibes, drums, piano) and one-time Berklee College of Music instructor, tours and performs with Christian McBride & Inside Straight, Bobby Watson's "Live and Learn" Sextet, and Karriem Riggins’ "Virtuoso Experience," among others, when not leading his own band. He also recently followed in the footsteps of vibes masters Bobby Hutcherson and Stefon Harris by becoming a member of the SFJazz Collective (both of whom precede him in the vibes chair).
He’s also performed or recorded with Wynton Marsalis and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Mulgrew Miller, Jeremy Pelt and "Creation," Tim Warfield, Adonis Rose, Anthony Wonsey, Aaron Goldberg, Cyrus Chestnut, Eric Reed, Terri Lyne Carrington, David "Fathead" Newman, Stefon Harris, Kevin Eubanks, Curtis Lundy, Ron Carter, Wycliffe Gordon, Robert Glasper, Esperanza Spalding, and many others.
