We Are Not Going Away: The Jazz Poetry Ensemble With Edward "kidd Jordan, Marlon Jordan, at George And Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center

The JazzPoetry Ensemble will make its New Orleans debut with its “We Are Not Going Away 2018 NOLA” concert on June 6 at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz and Heritage Center. Proceeds from the concert will support arts that further the cause of equal rights and equal justice.

JazzPoetry Ensemble blends its emotionally-charged and politically astute poems with the quintet’s wide range of musical styles, from funk, R&B and jazz to folk and rock ‘n roll.

“We are witnessing a systematic denigration and dismantling of hard-won rights of people of color, the LGBTQ community, immigrants and refugees, Muslims, the disabled, the poor, the environment, and on and on,” notes Michael Vander Does, band leader, trombonist and award-winning poet. “Silence is not an option and the ensemble has chosen to respond with an uplifting, energizing song set that gets your toes tapping, your hands clapping, and your feet high-stepping on the road to freedom.”
