San Jose Jazz features one of its longest-running education programs as part of Winter Fest. On Saturday, March 12, middle school, high school, and community college jazz bands from California will gather for an adjudicated music education event. The festival is a tribute to Smith Dobson, a great jazz musician and beloved music educator who was a key figure in early San Jose music education programs. He was an important figure in the Bay Area music world and contributed as a musician and educator until his tragic death in 2001. The Festival fosters and challenges students, enabling them to meet other talented and committed students while receiving guidance from leading jazz musicians and educators.
