Lame Deer, MT – On Saturday, September 25, 2010 5:00 PM. Jazz for Peace featuring Singer / Pianist / Composer Rick DellaRatta, considered by many to be one of the finest Jazz Artists performing today, will perform a special Benefit Concert for The MTFI Morning Star Cultural Exchange at The Lame Deer School Located in Lame Deer, MT.
Our sacred cultural gatherings are rooted in traditional knowledge and practices. These gatherings increase awareness and deepen ones spiritual connection through traditional artistic song, and dance. These practices also instill a sense cultural heritage and identity in a healthy lifestyle. Our mission is to promote the spiritual, social, and physical well being of individuals through cultural practices and how to merge those practices in understanding nature, themselves, and ultimately lead them into peace and oneness.
The Event will feature the Native American performing artistry, Art, Crafts and Northern Cheyenne Jazz musicians. This Event is to raise money for Northern Cheyenne youth to attend International Mini Summer Festival for Children in Slovenia (Europe) and Cultural month in San Francisco Bay Area (California). Having performed with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Paquito D' Rivera, Rick DellaRatta is now considered by many to be one of the finest Singer/Pianists performing today and one of only a handful of Jazz Artists who can make a successful musical presentation to a large audience without having to abandon the true art form of Jazz. His unique and original piano playing and composing has been compared in print to Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner, Keith Jarrett, Joe Zawinul, Horace Silver, Oscar Peterson and Thelonius Monk while his signature vocal sound and style has been likened to Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, Joao Gilberto, Ivan Lins, Michael Franks and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
