In forming the Ryan Keberle Double Quartet Ryan has combined his passions for jazz improvisation, pop and rock compositions, and classical sensibilities to create an exciting and enjoyable listening experience. The arrangements, done by Mr. Keberle, focus on his own original material, and that of other great song writers such as Lennon and McCartney, Wayne Shorter, and Duke Ellington. The ensemble, which consists of a jazz quartet (piano, bass, drums, and trombone) and a brass quartet (trumpet, French horn, trombone, and tuba), includes some of the most talented jazz musicians in the world. Members of the band currently play with Charlie Haden, Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Gil Evans, Charles Mingus, the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Barbara Streisand, the Lincoln Center Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Gonzalo Rubulcaba, Carla Bley, Greg Osby, Jeff Tain Watts, Richard Bona, Dave Douglass, Billy Cobham, the New Jersey Symphony, Henry Threadgill, Jimmy Bosch, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra and various Broadway Musicals....

"Trombonist/composer Joe Fiedler is known to critics as "among the most impressive trombonists to emerge in the past couple of decades" (Harvey Pekar, Signal to Noise) and "an MVP in configurations that range from salsa bands to the jazz avant-garde" (Time Out New York). This performance marks the debut of his latest project, "Big Sackbut"--featuring an all-star line-up of low brass soloists. The unique instrumentation of 3 trombones and tuba draws its inspiration from other horn driven ensembles such as The World Saxophone Quartet. The repertoire features a mix of originals along with new interpretations of covers ranging from Bennie Wallace to Willie Colon.

This is a bimonthly performance, production and discussion series by and for improvising trombonists. This is a revolving curatorial program featuring two performances, interview and a trombone choir session. Performances are professionally recorded and videotaped.
This is a private event. Guests and students welcome with $10 suggested donation to cover production and visiting artist fees.
