About
American popular song and jazz are not only interrelated, but are actually two sides of the same coin. In the second annual presentation of Sweet & Low Down: How Popular Standards Became Jazz Classics, Director Michael Feinstein is joined by 2012 Tony Award-nominated actress Jessie Mueller (On a Clear Day You Can See Forever) and pianist/vocalist Loston Harris. The three singers explore the unique relationship and common roots between the two seemingly unrelated musical worlds. The show will present classic songs from two viewpoints: as they were originally conceived for Broadway, Hollywood, and Tin Pan Alley, and then as they were re-invented by jazz performers to become classics in the jazz repertoire.
