This February, the Kitano New York will continue its young pianist showcase with Japanese jazz pianist, Michika Fukumori who will be performing in The Bar Lounge. Shows will be held at 8-11 p.m. each Tuesday during the month, including February 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd. There is no cover charge or food & beverage minimum for the Michika Fukumori performances at the Bar Lounge.
Michika Fukumori’s innate musical talents were evident from her early childhood. Born in Mai, Japan, Fukumori began playing the piano at the age of 3 and composing her own music at the age of 6. She graduated from the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music and began playing jazz professionally at venues throughout Tokyo. However, in 2000 Fukumori traveled to New York in hopes of further cultivating her talent. She achieved her master’s degree from the City College of New York in 2003 and since has been performing at some of the city’s most well-known jazz venues.
