Deborah's distinct style of phrasing, extraordinary singing ability, and professionalism earned her the honor of U.S. Jazz Ambassador, overseen by the U.S. State Department, in 2004. She has sung for dignitaries at United Nations & Embassy affairs, including a performance for former President Bill Clinton. Following Hurricane Katrina, Deborah was invited to Athens, Greece by the U.S. Embassy to headline a benefit concert for victims in New Orleans. Known to musicians as a hard-swinging singer, Deborah has performed with legendary jazz greats RAY BROWN, LIONEL HAMPTON and CLARK TERRY, as well as a rare opportunity to substitute for ABBEY LINCOLN here at the Blue Note. FREDDIE HUBBARD, ART BLAKEY, and LOU DONALDSON have all invited Deborah as a guest. Not limiting her talents to the jazz audience, Deborah has also shared the stage with BON JOVI and BILLY JOEL, along with THE SHIRELLS. While singing in the house band at the Monte Carlo Summer Festival in 2008, she opened for CELINE DION, ALICIA KEYS, JILL SCOTT, MACY GRAY, DIANA ROSS, SANTANA, CHICAGO, ERIC CLAPTON, ZZ TOP, ALANIS MORISETTE, JAMIE CULLUM and more.
Always striving to be a well-rounded person, Deborah ran a 26.2 mile fundraising marathon for the LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY in Dublin, Ireland in 1998. Following that incredibly fulfilling experience, she decided that singing for the cause was an even better idea. This is the 19th Annual jazz benefit concert for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, held annually here at the Blue Note. When she's not on stage Deborah enjoys, making jewelry, sewing, abstract art, poetry, vegetarian cooking, Bikram yoga, tai Chi, and working out. Deborah also collects any thing related to MONKEYS, a special passion of hers!
