A continual effort to present an affordable evening where only today’s best Jazz Artists gather to concert in a classic 19th c. original detailed style Townhouse, located in the Historical Landmark Gateway of Bedford Stuyvesant’s tree-lined community.
Many have created different, more up to date ways of keeping jazz alive than this venue. Only, BSJazz keeps jazz alive in a room which has kept a more back in the day style. Enjoy being entertained by great american jazz in a socially diverse, cultured way.
The sound of music radiates off the 1880s wooded areas, which allows for natural acoustic listening, considered unusual in these times. The walls and floors are shared by original style wooden and brass instruments played by amazing artists.
By sitting in the middle of this area, the musical feel is haunting in the very intimate building. The beautiful design of BrownstoneJAZZ is an extremely smaller version of New York’s larger fascinating Music Halls, but just as effective by leaving you astounded.
There’s a time in the evening when the audience can become a part of the entertainment, and perform with World Class Musicians. The wonderful talent that performs during that time makes it more than an OPEN MIC. The performers in many cases are wonderful artist their selves. Often enough, they have gained showcasing performances, at BrownstoneJAZZ.
BrownstoneJAZZ is all about the music. Yet, there must be a break during the festival, to refresh the musicians and audience with a home cooked meal, prepared by the evening hostess DebbieMc. A delicious buffet of our Famous Fried Fish, Slaw and Corn Bread, keeps within another Jazz tradition of a late night Fish Fry. Back in the day you found that the best Jazz and fish fries were found in community houses.
Once again after the fish fry seats are filled, and the night continues till the enjoyment of the last note has played. Then the audience many times raise to their feet in applauds, and reluctantly descend from what we like to call ‘THE ROOM' . Or, as NBC Lester Holt called it “THE HOUSE OF JAZZ”
