Here’s a rare chance to see one of Chicago’s critically acclaimed jazz vocalists, Maggie Brown and her sultry sister Africa Pace Brown stopping by to spread their celebration to Brooklyn this December.
2Brown Sisters: Africa & Maggie Brown are a dynamic duo when energetically merging their foundation in jazz with the beat of hip hop, reggae and a whole lot of soul. Their performances are harmonious blends, emitting their style of sisterly love, revealing a chemistry that is sometimes comical. Always enjoyable and rich with relevance, 2Brown Sisters are able to draw from a rich treasure trove of material from their prolific father. And these days,, they are creating and including their own material in the set line up
Maggie and Africa are the youngest of seven children by the singer, songwriter, playwright, actor, and activist. Carrying on the OBJ legacy means using their talents to “edutain” offering insights into history, culture and life. 2Brown Sisters’ show includes a world music sensibility, blending genres from classic jazz and ballads, to spoken word and folk tales set to hip hop and afro-cuban rhythms.

(AFRICA PACE BROWN IS UNABLE TO MAKE THE TRIP DUE TO SUDDEN MEDICAL EMERGENCY )
Maggie Brown is a singer and performer who uses her gifts not only to entertain, but to educate as well. She is the daughter of the late Oscar Brown, Jr., a composer, social activist, and giant of the jazz music scene. For 19 years, she has toured her one-woman show, “LEGACY: Our Wealth of Music,” which follows the history and evolution of African American music and covers a wide range of musical forms. Maggie works through the arts to make an impact on young lives, and her message fosters care and respect for words, music, history and life. We spoke about her work and her father’s in the fall of 2012
“he promptly started exercising nepotism, which he was always good for, and by the time I was fifteen I had my professional debut, I was in Dad’s play at the Body Politic Theatre, on Lincoln Ave."
