World-renowned multilingual, multinational vocalist, Elin, continues the celebration of a milestone in her life and career this year with her 50th Birthday at Room 623's Brazil Night!
Elin's love affair with Brazilian music began as a teenager growing up in Sweden.... One lazy afternoon, on a summer break from school, she first heard João Gilberto and Jobim -- and time stood still. In that moment, mesmerized, she knew she'd been waiting her whole life to hear this music...a sound she'd never heard before.
She instantly knew she was destined to become a singer, learn this language, sing this music, and perform it all over the world -- and she never looked back!
After her family moved to the USA, Elin received a scholarship to study at the University of Miami where she received a Bachelor's degree in jazz & studio music. Upon graduation, Elin promptly moved to New York City, with only $600 to her name, to pursue her career as a jazz singer. After 11 years on the NYC jazz scene, performing at venues like the Blue Note and Dizzy's Club (Jazz at Lincoln Center), releasing a debut album to critical acclaim, touring, and winning songwriting awards, Elin relocated to Washington DC, where she has now been living and performing on the local scene for the past 12 years at venues like The Kennedy Center and Blues Alley.
Elin's debut album "Lazy Afternoon" blended originals with American jazz & the sounds of Brazil and can be heard on Apple Music, Amazon, and YouTube. Her collaborations with Thievery Corporation can be found on all music platforms, and she's currently in the studio finishing up her next album -- a tribute to Elis Regina -- featuring Christian McBride, Antonio Adolfo (Elis Regina's pianist and musical director in the late 60's), Rafael Barata (Grammy-winner with Eliane Elias for "Best Latin Jazz Album" 2016), Yotam Silberstein & Nilson Matta.
This performance will feature her signature Brazilian repertoire, featuring a stellar band of her favorite instrumentalists: Dario Eskenai (keys), Leo Traversa (bass), Marcello Pellitteri (drums).
