Saxophonist Travis Laplante woke up one morning with the crystal clear vision that he needed to start an all-tenor-saxophone ensemble with three other individuals: Matthew Nelson, Jeremy Viner, and Patrick Breiner. Battle Trance is the “mesmerizing” (NY Times) result. Their performances have been described as a “voyage of glorious texture, melody, and mood” (AV Club) and their debut piece Palace of Wind lives up to their pioneering reputation. This performance is also part of Handmade Abstract, an exhibition currently on view in our gallery that brings together 13 emerging and mid-career artists who are dedicated to the visual language of abstraction and whose work emphasizes the handcrafted nature of the art and processes of fabrication.
