Colombian jazz and classical pianist Carolina Calvache, is part of the new generation of pianist and composers whose style blends South American rhythms with a contemporary jazz sound. Her participation in 2011 Mary Lou Williams woman in jazz festival for outstanding artists in 2011, brought the attention of Legendary pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi who described her original music as ” Rich and Marvelous”.

Carolina began her piano studies at age of 6 at the Conservatorio Antonio Maria Valencia in her native city, Cali, Colombia. Her keen interest in composition and jazz made her decide to come to the United States and pursue a career in jazz. In 2006 she won a jazz scholarship offered by the University of North Texas, where she completed her Master’s Degree in performance and composition. She has played with musicians suchs Eddy Gomez, Ed soph, Lynn Seaton, Samuel Torres, John benitez, and is currently teaching and performing in NYC. She is also currently working on her debut album in which she includes a high line of musicians of the New York jazz scene including Michel Rodriguez, Jaleel Shaw, Ludwig Alfonso, Antonio Sanchez and Hans Glawishing.
