After a summer break, Dorian Wallace and His Big Band – an innovative, 17-piece jazz ensemble under the direction of composer Dorian Wallace – comes roaring back for its second season as the resident big band at SOMETHIN’ Jazz Club in Midtown. The repertoire of Dorian Wallace and His Big Band broadly blends modernist harmonies (Igor Stravinsky, Arnold Schoenberg) with fusion grooves (Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew, Chick Corea’s Return to Forever). Wallace’s music, while complex, is exceptionally accessible to audiences new to jazz, especially improvisatory jazz or art music.

Dorian Wallace and His Big Band is a resident ensemble of TENTH INTERVENTION, a new music ensemble committed to presenting new compositions alongside established repertoire in alternative settings and challenging the standard expectation of the classical music concert, co-founded by Dorian Wallace and violinist Hajnal Pivnick.
