Eri Yamamoto has created an epic evening-length and unique choral experience - Goshu Ondo Suite – which reimagines a centuries-old, revered Japanese tradition through the lenses of both jazz and choral music.

The Ondo is a Japanese song form with a distinctive swing feel to it. Goshu Ondo Suite, inspired by a version of the song from Shiga prefecture, however, breaks all the rules in true chameleon fashion. Yamamoto takes it a step further and weaves interjections of her stupendous jazz piano trio into the mix to bring a modern, urban bustle which perfectly mixes the old with the new and the spiritual with the secular....

Paired with this iconic Japanese folk music is the Obon or Bon, the traditional festival of the ancestors, at the center of which is a joyful community dance, usually performed in a circle – easy to learn and powerful when done together with the whole town. Bon dances are a tradition to welcome the visiting ancestral spirits.

As the charismatic voices of Choral Chameleon sing and perform the dance with the driving force of Eri Yamamoto Trio, the audience will participate and enter the flow with everyone, to create an evening of musical life no one will ever forget.
