Composer and pianist Evan Mazunik leads his avant-jazz quintet ZAHA in the premiere of "Ashes, Ashes,” weaving music and dance with Shape Note melodies and middle school shame into a poignant, and humorous reflection on impermanence, loss, and transformation. Evan Mazunik will direct the group using a sign language for live composition based on both Walter Thompson’s Soundpainting and Butch Morris’ Conduction.
