With a lineup including members of the Mingus, Vanguard, and Roy Hargrove big bands, the Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band, and the JALC Orchestra, the Fat Cat Big Band has drawn consistent comparisons to Ellington's, Basie's, and Mingus's bands for the fierce originality of bandleader Jade Synstelien's compositions, the quality of his arrangements, and the caliber of the band's performance. Described by All About Jazz as "one of the most refreshing groups to come along in years" (May 2009) and "poised to change the face of today's big band sound" (Jan. 2010), the Fat Cat Big Band is proud to bring their rambunctiously downtown sound to the Iridium's hallowed stage.
