Joy Askew came to New York City from the North ofEngland in the 80’s and has enjoyed an embellished careerplaying keyboards and singing alongside music icons such asPeter Gabriel, Laurie Anderson, Joe Jackson, RodneyCrowell, Jack Bruce and Quincy Jones.She has performed with her own band on stages from NYC’sCBGBs to festivals in UK, USA, Japan and Europe andopened for David Bowie and David Byrne among others.Now as a re-invented musical poet, she has been a dedicatedsongwriter since the late nineties and her ninth full lengthalbum as an artist, Everything Is Different, was released in2022. Her most recent live EP, Joy Askew Live at GrandStreet Recording, was released Summer 2024 on Bandcampand features her band, Tony Mason: drums, Andy Hess: bass,Guitarist Luca Benedetti and Daniel Mintseris: synths &electronics.A frequent performer at Bar Lunatico and other NYC venues,Askew also sings in a Brooklyn choir that was featured on aSufjan Stevens EP, collaborated with a British brass band andreleased a downtempo jazz electronica album along the way.
