Jazu Harlem Presents: The J-MUSIC Ensemble
The J-MUSIC Ensemble, led by saxophonist Patric Bartley, is an NYC-based, jazz-rooted instrumental band that is devoted to bringing new perspectives to modern Japanese music. This strikingly sonorous quintet combines the elements of the electric guitar, keyboards, bass, and drums with horns to deliver a full and powerful, yet dynamic, sound. This band is presented in partnership with the Japan Society with support from the US-Japan Foundation.
Tammy McCann – “YES, MAHALIA!”
With her voice and spirit Tammy McCann truly captures this gospel legend. This big band concert is a fresh and soulful re-imagining of Jackson’s music that captures the synergy of her unique sound and pairs it with the sonic power of big band jazz.
Kim Holmes & Universal Dance Movement
Universal Dance Movement – founded by luminary Kim D. Holmes – will join multiple groups and perform throughout the celebration! This dance group uses traditional African, modern, hip-hop, and house moves to redefine the face of blended artistry. UDM challenges the concept of fusion, and chooses to serve the environment in its entirety.
