Some people find it an amazing thing, bringing these concert to life in a 19th Century Brownstone Bed and Breakfast. Sankofa Aban BnB welcomes friendly faces eager to feel something unique all the time. Therefore, to include an audience eager to experience what was, makes presenting jazz there even better. Bedford Stuyvesant, is the area of New York City's Brooklyn, where it all happens. This quiet tree lined block on Macon St. is friendly to it's music goer's. Travelers from all over the world, seek us out. Some of which, are aware of the fact that Bedford Stuyvesant is know for a rich original start in the world called JAZZ. Those that are not aware of this fact gather for a Popcorn MIX AND MINGLE, and are given a quick history lesson. Discussed are the first jazz clubs and the famous musicians that shined around the 6 generational family that still remains here at 107 Macon St. Shown in the house, are artifacts proving the families long standing history in the community, of Brooklyn. After the concert start, another tradition that has lingered behind the walls would be a Fish Fry. This has been something that has happened for decades, usually on Friday Nights in many homes around the globe. This tradition we practice became so popular in what I like to call THE ROOM, many insisted on Saturdays, too. This modest buffet happens during an intermission, with Southern fried Whiting, Broccoli Slaw and Breads. At BrownstoneJAZZ we like to end our evening by offering a chance for audience members to get in on the action. Invitations are extended to anyone who think that they are talented enough to perform with world reknown musicians. Or even the very talented, well known artist that just happens to be in THE ROOM and has something to share.
