Maria Manousaki 4tet at Rockwood Music Hall

A single melancholic note cuts through the dark silence then a pool of light brings Maria into focus. The violin seems to take on a life of its own, transporting the audience into another dimension where the music is spellbinding and riveting. Incorporating sounds of primitive African and Cretan cadences, the music Maria weaves is hypnotizing.

Born in South Africa, growing up in Greece and currently residing in New York City, Maria Manousaki draws from her roots and love of jazz as inspiration for her compositions. She is releasing her album "Sole Voyage" on the 25th November at the Rockwood music hall with her world jazz quartet comprised of notable musicians Shai Maestro on piano, Petros Klampanis on double bass Engin Gunaydin on drums and special guests Tamer Pinarbasi on Kanun, Mavrothi Kontanis on oud and Nektarios Kostakis on Cretan Lute, there will also be a string qtet on some tunes, with Delaney Stockli, Elena Shalenkova, Peter Kiral, Ward Williams....
