New York City, NY - July 22, 2015, 7:30pm A public concert to honor the arts and culture of Taiwan, with performances by young musicians from Taiwan and around the globe, showcasing their own contemporary jazz interpretation of traditional Taiwanese songs. This event will be held at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, located at 1 East 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan, NYC.

For the first time in the City of New York, fifteen young jazz musicians from Taiwan, United States, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, will gather to perform their own modern jazz version of traditional Taiwanese Han music live, with unique compositions and one-of-a-kind instruments such as the Erhu - a Chinese musical instrument with two strings held by a bow and played on the lap, to transform the history of each song into a modern day fairytale.

Produced by Pianist/Producer Ya-Ting Huang and Yu-Hsien “Kiwi” Wei, Chief Engineer at the Shapeshifter Lab. The couple wanted to show the world their love for jazz and Taiwanese culture, so they collaborated with other musicians who also shared the same passion and enthusiasm, including Yu-Lin Wang, Yi-Hsuan Chi, Yu-Hsin Chang, Fung Chern Hwei, Takafumi Suenaga, Amos Ang, David H Mensch, Aaron Bahr, Brain D Plautz and Shubh Saran, to compose and create a sound that is uniquely their own. Some of the headlining performers are: Violist Andy Lin, a Juilliard graduate who is currently performing at the Lincoln Center, Cellist/Pianist Yi-Wen Ho, winner of the 2015 International Shining Stars Competition, along with Vibraphonist Yuhan Su, winner of the 2013 Golden Indie Music Award for best album and new artist of the year. There will also be a private VIP & press reception prior to the concert, with exclusive catering provided by Eddie and Evan Huang’s “Baohaus” restaurant.

“We wanted to do this concert to elevate the presence and visibility of Taiwanese culture and its musicians, in New York City and beyond, through the sound of traditional Taiwanese songs infused with contemporary jazz beats, passion, unity and love.” Said Yu-Hsien “Kiwi”, Ya-Ting and all the talented performers in this dynamic ensemble.
