Nigun was founded in 2001 by guitarist and composer András Párniczky to create music rooted in Eastern European Jewish traditions. When Nigun takes the stage, the spiritual power of the tradition and contemporary jazz blend together in a perfect mix. Their genre-bending music is best labeled as "klez-jazz”, but it is first and foremost their creativity and spontaneous spirit that shines through their playing.
Nigun has performed and recorded with world renowned artists over the years. The album Bale Kulturnik featured the Israeli saxophonist Daniel Zamir (Satlah). In the same year, members of the group participated in John Zorn's Cobra performance in the Palace Of Arts (Budapest, Hungary) under the direction of Zorn himself. Since 2007 multi-instrumentalist Matt Darriau (Klezmatics, Paradox Trio) has been a recurring guest of Nigun, just like Miklos Lukacs, a cimbalom (Hungarian folk dulcimer) artist. The band has shared the stage with Dom Byron, Frank London (Klezmatics, Hassidic New Wave), Steven Bernstein (Sex Mob), Kristof Bacso, Jozsef Barcza Horvath, Robert Benko, Mihaly 'Dudas' Dresch and Daniel Szabo as well.
