With an inquisitive, searching mind to match his unparalleled artistry, Mr. Carter leads an eight-member ensemble interpreting classics of Bach and Ravel as well as Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You.” Using rhythmic, melodic and other sonic devices specific to American culture, he demonstrates how music can be transformed by place and time.
