The American Pianists Association (APA) – recognized by the New York Times for the “profound early-career assistance” - presents Sean Chen and Dan Tepfer, the APA’s 2013 DeHaan Classical Fellow and 2007 Cole Porter Jazz Fellow. The event also celebrates the launch of Chen’s Steinway & Sons solo album, to be released March 25.

An “American shooting star” blessed with “outstanding stage presence combined with an extraordinary technique and musicianship” (Theater Jones), Sean Chen snared the APA’s top prize, valued at $100,000, last April and third prize at the 2013 Cliburn competition in May. As on his album Goldberg Variations / Variations, jazz sensation Dan Tepfer, known for juxtaposing standard classical masterpieces with jazz improvisations, will reflect on some of Sean Chen’s repertory with his own improvisations to “build a bridge across centuries and genres” (Wall Street Journal). Tepfer was voted a Best New Artist in JazzTimes in 2010 and is a continuous favorite on the DownBeat Rising Stars list.
