About

Go behind-the-scenes of five-time Grammy-winning composer Terence Blanchard’s haunting and visually stunning “opera in jazz.” Telling the true story of Emile Griffith, this work explores the life of the closeted gay boxer whose knockout of a homophobic rival in the early 1960s led to unexpected tragedy. Washington National Opera's artistic director Francesca Zambello moderates a discussion with Blanchard. Mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves and members of the cast perform highlights prior to opening at Washington National Opera on March 4.

Please note: This performance contains strong language and may not be suitable for all audiences.
