“If you have never seen her perform live, she is joy incarnate. She scats, she wails, coos, squalls, caresses, plays with words as if writing a play on stage, and does so with a twinkle in her eye. One can hear influences ranging from Nina Simone to Frank Zappa to Bill Dixon to Jimi Hendrix in her music.” – Richard Kamins, Step Tempest In command, infectious, energetic and strong, Fay Victor hypnotizes audiences, whether she sings a blues, sculpts a free piece, reinvents a Herbie Nichols tune through her own lyrics, or effortlessly improvising over the harmonies of a jazz standard or her own material with lyrics that speak of universal themes in story-driven ways, running the full gamut of human emotion in an original mix of traditional song forms and free improvisation – or “FreeSong” – that has become Victor’s trademark approach to improvised vocal music. -

During the 1940 into the 1960 one didn't have to go to Manhattan for a Jazz scene, one of the largest places to enjoy jazz was Brooklyn's Bedford Stuyvesant community. There is where the jazz venues were owned and operated by, Black Americans, aka African American.
At that time the neighborhood held many venues that housed jazz greats like Thelonius Monk, Randy Weston, Miles Davis, Max Roach, Hank Mobley and others. Many things eventually changed, and the jazz club fizzled out in favor of a different generation.
Debbie McClain, owner of Sankofa Aban Bed and Breakfast is looking to revive the local jazz scene of the past. DebbieMc along with Eric Lemons an accomplished string musician and co foundering partner for BrownstoneJAZZ values authenticity and selectiveness when deciding who to feature and when. No bells, whistles or amps here. This is Salon Jazz: intimate, classic, acoustic concerts plain and simple every Friday and Saturday night.
You're invited to this magical evening of music as you're taken behind the scenes of this undercover jazz venue. You'll get there early to meet the performers, as you take a seat for a jazz fest experience of a lifetime.
Included in your evening will be a traditional Southern fish fry buffet. Cooked on site in a traditional way.
