The votes are in, and now it’s time to celebrate the 2016 Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame inductees!  Tonight we honor living legend Wayne Shorter, a saxophonist known for his work as a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis’ “Second Great Quintet;” as a founding member of the Weather Report; and as a prolific bandleader and visionary composer. The “modern poet laureate of jazz,” Shorter has created a peerless body of original compositions that offer infinite possibility for tonight’s celebration. The artists on stage are in charge of the program, and we’re excited to see how they approach this legendary music and add their own voices to Shorter’s ongoing legacy.
