About

Most people know George Wein because fifty-nine years ago in Newport, Rhode Island, he invented the modern jazz festival. Fewer might know that Wein swings just as hard as a performer as he does as a producer. Still going strong in his ninth decade, Wein celebrates his 88th birthday behind the piano accompanied by the latest iteration of his band, the Newport All-Stars, featuring tenor saxophonist Lew Tabackin, trumpeter Randy Brecker, saxophonist-clarinetist Anat Cohen, guitarist Howard Alden, bassist Peter Washington, and drummer Lewis Nash. With New York Times jazz journalist (and Wein's biographer) Nate Chinen hosting the proceedings, Wein will intersperse songs with stories and reflections drawn from his remarkable life in jazz, framed by projections of photographs from his personal collection.
