About

Holy Crow Jazz Band is a New York City based ensemble that specializes in American traditional jazz music from the 1920s throughout the 1930s. The band’s repertoire includes many instrumental numbers that were written or were inspired by great musicians of the past such as King Oliver, Kid Ory, Bix Beiderbecke, Red Nichols, and The Original Dixieland Jazz Band, just to name a few. Lead vocals by Jessy Carolina are reminiscent of the antiquated musical stylings of Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, and Ma Rainey. The band’s stompy and lively sound can be attributed to its heavy horns and solid rhythm section lead by Carolina’s husband, Mario J. Maggio (clarinet and tenor saxophone). On trumpet is Tin Pan’s vivacious Jesse Selengut. The boisterous Tim Vaughn plays trombone, and proudly known as “TubaJoe” Joe Exley booms on tuba. Proving to be the important foundation of the band are Adam Brisbin on guitar and Curt Garey on drums, with occasional washboarding by Jessy Carolina. Holy Crow Jazz Band sets the stage for dancing and all within its company for a grand old time....
