IVAN NEVILLE PIANO SESSIONS - MARDI GRAS CELEBRATION
Ivan Neville will debut his "Piano Sessions" at the Blue Note for 3 nights only, 2 shows each night featuring special sets of songs from his solo albums, rare covers, traditional Nola music reinvented and much more. He will be accompanied by bass player Nick Daniels and drummer Raymond Weber.
New Orleans-born keyboardist, singer and songwriter, Ivan Neville's music career began as a teenager performing alongside his father, Aaron, and his uncles, Art, Charles and Cyril in the Neville Brothers. In 1988, his first solo record, If My Ancestors Could See Me Now, landed him a Top 40 Billboard hit with "Not Just Another Girl."
An established studio and touring musician, Ivan also contributed keyboards and vocals to two Rolling Stones albums and became a member of Keith Richards' solo band, the X-Pensive Winos. Ivan is featured on his latest album Crosseyed Heart, which released last year in 2015. Ivan was a member of Bonnie Raitt's band from '85-'87, and performed and/or recorded with Rufus, Don Henley, Robby Robertson, the Spin Doctors, Warren Haynes and others in the years to follow.
In 2003, Ivan joined up with cousin Ian Neville (son of Art) and several of New Orleans' most renowned funk musicians to perform at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Following Hurricane Katrina, the one-time side-project evolved into the full-time funk powerhouse now known as Dumpstaphunk, one of the foremost leaders of their genre worldwide.
Dumpstaphunk independently released their debut EP Listen Hear in 2007 and first full-length studio album Everybody Want Sum in 2010. Today they are touring nationwide and overseas in support of their second full-length record, Dirty Word (July 2013, Louisiana Red Hot Records) and have funked up stages at Bonnaroo, Lockn Music Festival, Voodoo Festival, Dave Matthews Caravan, Suwannee Hulaween Gathering of The Vibes and many more. The band has plans to release a double disc live album this year featuring many special guests including Mike Gordon, John Popper, John Oates, Lukas Nelson and many more.
Most recently, Ivan has toured and performed with Trombone Shorty last year in 2015, and also performed at Widespread Panic's "Panic en la Playa Cinco" in Mexico featuring an all-star crew with George Porter, Jr., Eric Krasno, Bruce Hampton, Randall Bramblett, Nikki Glaspie, and Jennifer Hartswick.
Ivan is currently a member of the all-star group Dragon Smoke, which includes members Robert Mercurio (Galactic), Eric Lindell, Stanton Moore (Galactic).
Through the Tipitina's Foundation, Ivan also performed benefit shows with other New Orleans musicians in support of Hurricane Katrina charities, as well as 2012 Sandy relief benefits in New York and New Orleans.
