Jamie Baum Septet+ at Dizzy's Club

NYC jazz flutist/composer, Sunnyside Records artist and 2014 Guggenheim Fellow, Jamie Baum, released her 6th CD, Bridges with The Jamie Baum Septet+ (May, 2018). Internationally recognized and listed in DownBeat Critics Polls annually since ’99, she’s toured in 35 countries and worked/recorded with several renown and diverse jazz artists ranging from Randy Brecker, Donald Brown, Mick Goodrick, Roy Hargrove, Tom Harrell, John Abercrombie, Kenny Barron to Dave Douglas, Fred Hersch, David Binney, Louis Cole, Anthony Braxton, Wadada Leo Smith.

Her compositional muse, The Jamie Baum Septet+ was formed in 1999, and has since produced four highly acclaimed CDs with countless tours under their belt. Receiving standing ovations at packed venues has become the norm for this band, creating excitement and a kaleidoscope of colors with their unusual instrumentation and NYC-style “take no prisoners” energy! Having recently returned from their October 2021, ten-city tour that included The Earshot (Seattle) and Angel City (LA) Jazz Festivals and major venues, Kuumbwa and Athenaeum, they look with great anticipation for their premiere performance at JALC’s Dizzy’s Club on February 28, 2022. Having received standing ovations on this recent tour, they’ll continue to perform requested selections from their recent award-winning release, Bridges, and premier new repertoire soon to be recorded. Baum has composed some stunning music highlighting the words of women poets including Adrienne Rich and Tracy K. Smith, reflecting our collective experience in the time of Covid-19, social and political climate. For this new project she enlists the exciting styling of powerful vocalist Aubrey Johnson who joins them on this date.
