When Ingrid Laubrock was asked to put together a project for jazzahead! 2023 she didn't hesitate to accept. In Laubrock's words: “The pandemic upended many things, but possibly also made us all more fluid and flexible, and coming out of it is a great time to start something new and fresh. The thought of connecting with a new cast of players had been germinating in my mind for a while, and this seemed to be the perfect opportunity to realize it.” The musicians Laubrock picked for this project are all part of a new cutting-edge generation of NYC based creative musicians and, with the exception of accordionist Adam Matlock, players she has performed with only once. This marks a fresh approach for a composer who usually has close and long-lasting musical relationships with her colleagues.
