…New York has no shortage of guitar heroes but few cover as many bases as Jim Campilongo..." -Time Out New York"If you’ve heard the experimental jamband ulu, the more country oriented Honeyfingers (especially their album Last Night, This Morning with guitarist Jim Campilongo) or Ta Da…,his debut back in 2010, then you’ve already heard the versatile, thrill-seeking guitar work of Luca Benedetti.” -Relix Magazine“…There it was again: the stinging treble, the spooky overtones, the strings snapping and booming under his hands—the sound of a Tele being played as skillfully and exuberantly as it can be played…it sounded like nothing and nobody else—sounded like Jim Campilongo…”  -The New Yorker“…Campilongo is an engaging improviser whose … supple moves can keep an audience enthralled—meaning their asses wiggle and their minds jiggle..." -The Village Voice"...Benedetti has great tone and tasty playing..." Everyone Loves Guitar"…Mr. Campilongo connects American styles … in a sly, knowing way..." -The New York TimesTWO GUITARSFollowing the successful Jim & Luca collaboration “Last Night,This Morning” record which Vintage Guitar wrote ”This is a brilliant record with magic and artistry..." and Guitar Player Magazine wrote “…looks like one of the top guitar records of the year…” Jim Campilongo and Luca Benedetti decided to get down to basics and collaborate on a project with just two guitars. Based on their mutual respect and easy chemistry, and their love for Jim Hall, Link Wray, Jimmy Bryant, Howard Roberts, Wes Montgomery, Dilermando Reis and Chet Atkins, Jim and Luca shine through on the stellar performances on 'Two Guitars'This project started as a last resort effort three years ago at a 55 Bar NYC gig when Jim & Luca were notified by band members they couldn't attend the gig due to bad weather. Knowing the show must go on, Jim & Luca played the show as a duo, not knowing exactly what to expect - by the 2nd set they found the duo setting a challenging musical arena loaded with spontaneous interaction and freedom. Using the 55 Bar NYC as a jumping off point they honed in their collaboration and the result is heard on their new release "Two Guitars". Preparing for this record, Jim and Luca immediately went through the American songbook and started writing pieces for the duo-unexpected results happened immediately. The very un-American Chopin's 'Minute Waltz' was their first success. Avoiding the precedented break neck tempo to emphasize the songs beauty, this unlikely guitar duo Chopin piece is a lovely showstopper. Lucas' composition 'Geppetto‘s Waltz' (a nickname for his father's endless initiative as an amateur carpenter) is a lovely journey capturing the essence of Gypsy-esque melodies. Luca commented "I initially wrote the song with a much faster tempo in mind but I'm really happy with how we played it - it tells a better story - and my father was deeply touched by the dedication and performance..." Jim’s original 'Denisse' has an iconic beauty that is Jim's favorite track on 'Two Guitars'. Campilongo said "this song was written from the heart and I felt a lot of pressure to get it right. I knew Luca would come up with the perfect part and I'm ecstatic about the performance". Other Campilongo originals include the whimsical "Nice Dress" that featured Luca as the primary soloist. "I thought of this as an outtake from ‘Howard Roberts is a Dirty Guitar Player’ and Luca nailed the solo". "Tears Waiting Inside", another Campilongo original, sounds like an early Paul Simon composition, played instrumentally. Luca commented "I shedded my part for hours, I knew Jim really loved this song and was hoping it would reach it's potential". When listening to the track one senses a deep internal conversation. Also included is 'Mood Indigo' written by the great Duke Ellington. Campilongo recalls "it was the end of a very long day at The Bunker Studios and Luca suggested we record Mood Indigo before we pack up. I was tired and didn't want any surprises, but Luca persisted and it was like falling off a log - I love it and it has a late night vibe that's really special" Other covers include 'Mona Lisa", Up a Lazy River' ( a song the great Jimmie Rivers taught Jim) and some of Campilongo best originals to date - 'Otto' Jim's answer to 'Geppetto's Waltz, 'Blade of Grass' a song for good friend who tragically overdosed, 'Whistle While You Don't Work' a rhythm changes sleigh ride, and the record also included a reworking of previously released 'Coal’. Campilongo states "I knew we could present a different viewpoint and our 'Coal' came out beautifully"...
