Joshua Aaron Roseman's Joshua Three brings an ungodly noise to Rose Live Music in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Wednesday, November 17 at 8PM
The devious brassman brings a dub-driven "extemporaneous love ensemble" to Rose Live Music in Williamsburg for two sets on Wednesday, November 17 starting at 8 PM. The material will run the gamut- from deep dub to lovely, multi dimensional song forms to the purely spontaneous- what Roseman calls "mindless interplay."
The group features the influential multi-instrumentalist Peter Apfelbaum on "left hand organ- kind of a functional blend between Robbie Shakespearem Wilbur Ware and Art Tatum," plus Australian jazz maverick Barney McAll on a blend of electronics, traps and triggers, rhythm guitar genius Ari Bortnick on guitar, and the irrepressible Dan Weiss on drums....

Roseman's frontline trombone concept is unique, owing at least as much to the likes of crooners like Ronald Isley & Marvin Gaye as it does to traditional bone icons Fred Wesley and Don Drummond- with a generous splash of Ornette and Hendrix added for good measure. He directs several working ensembles, including the electric JRU quintet, the New Constellations dub septet, the unpredictable Stool Softeners, the Water Surgeons ambient trombone choir with electronics, and the 12 piece King Froopy Allstars. He's additionally known for a wide range of sideman and recording work with the likes of Dave Douglas, Me'shell Ndegeocello, the Roots, John Zorn, Steve Coleman, MMW, Don Byron, Charlie Hunter, Soulive and the late Lester Bowie. He is also an organizer, founder of the New York Slideworkers' Union, a not-for-profit trombonists' collective, and he directs a busy production/performance space in Williamsburg called 58N6 Media Labs. Roseman enjoys indoor paratrooping, various butter sandwiches and reading a mythical goat in Brooklyn.
