Legendary alto saxophonist Lee Konitz is a tireless searcher and musical force who is “able to erase context and preconceptions and more or less blow your mind.” (The New York Times) Initially recognized for his work on Miles Davis’ “Birth of Cool” sessions, Konitz became a driving force in the”cool school” of jazz in the early 1950’s. He was associated with pianist Lennie Tristano but branched our to collaborate with jazz legends Dave Brubeck, Charles Mingus, Gerry Mulligan and others in a variety if styles. Konitz also holds the distinction of having performed on Birdland’s opening night December 15, 1949.
