Giant Step Arts presents the Leap Day Trio (Matt Wilson, Jeff Lederer & Mimi Jones) at the New Cafe Bohemia. This is the first recording in 60 years at the legendary club and was put in motion by Jim Austin Editor-in-Chief of Stereophile magazine introducing Jimmy Katz to Cafe Bohemia’s Christine Santelli. Matt Wilson explains, one evening the renowned jazz photographer, recording engineer Jimmy Katz, called me with a brilliant idea. He suggested we make a live recording at the recently reopened Cafe Bohemia as part of his non-profit presenting organization, Giant Steps Arts. The original club, which was a NYC favorite from 1955-60, was a venue where Kenny Dorham, Art Blakey, Charles Mingus, Randy Weston and George Wellington made celebrated live recordings....

"Jimmy Katz requested that I involve my frequent collaborator, saxophonist extraordinaire Jeff Lederer. I am big fan of bassist Mimi Jones so I wrote her and she was excited to be a part of the collective trio. So we are writing and workshopping original songs to be recorded the weekend of February 28/29 which lands on Leap Day- thus the genesis of Leap Day.

We know the legacy and spirit of the hallowed room at 15 Barrow St. NYC will certainly inspire the sonic proceedings of this live record."
