About

A Contraluz is the first solo album of the Galician flutist and composer Maria Toro.  Born in flamenco and bred in jazz, the album is the result of a fifteen- year journey of quest and exploration towards finding an individual voice.  In its universal nature, A Contraluz travels across cities and cultures, coloring Toro’s music with a unique style.  Composed across Spain, Switzerland, Brazil and the US, the album was recorded in New York alongside the prominent jazz mentors such as Jean-Michel Pilc, Yelsy Heredia, Ben Street and Justin Brown.  A Contraluz reveals Maria Toro’s virtuouso perfection on the flute achieving to synthesize flamenco and jazz in order to embrace other styles thereby unveiling a bold and stimulating proposal.
