May The 4th Be With You: Jaimie Branch’s Anteloper And Fly Or Die at Roulette

The ghostly avant-garde trumpeter Jaimie Branch presents new commissioned work for Roulette in her drum-trumpet duo Anteloper and quartet Fly or Die. Featuring work by Chicago-based artist, Kim Alpert, the evening’s first set Anteloper X Kim Alpert features the electric brain child of Jaimie Branch and Jason Nazary (Little Women, Helado Negro, Bear in Heaven). Branch and Nazary have been playing together as trumpeter and drummer for years, since meeting at the New England Conservatory of Music in 2002, but in this duo both musicians include synthesizers to push further into the spectral space ship ether. With deep rhythmic passages, telepathic improvisations and effortless melodic negotiations, Anteloper pushes forward, swinging its horns all the while. The second set will feature Fly or Die, Branch’s quartet featuring Lester St. Louis on cello, Jason Ajemian on bass, and Chad Taylor on drums/mbira. The quartet will be playing selections from the Fly or Die record as well as premiering some new material from a forthcoming album.
